Frank Dobson MP
(Elected 2009)
Frank Dobson MP has represented Holborn and St Pancras, the constituency that is home to Birkbeck, since 1979.
He was educated at Archbishop Holgate Grammar School, York and is an alumnus of the London School of Economics. Subsequently, from 1971-76, he served as a Camden Borough Councillor and held the post of Leader of the Council from 1973-75. During his time as a Member of Parliament, Frank has proved to be a stalwart supporter whenever funding for the College or students has been under threat from the Government of the day. He has long campaigned for improved recognition of the funding needs of part-time students and welcomes, at least, that aspect of the Browne report.
As a strong supporter of the merits of high quality education, he is a Governor of Argyle Primary School in King’s Cross, of the Royal Veterinary College, and a member of the Court of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Frank is a former Health Secretary and continuing campaigner for the NHS and against inequalities in health provision; he was recently made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.
