Birkbeck was founded in 1823. We are part of the University of London, one of the world's largest and most highly regarded universities. Today, our student community is one of the most diverse in the UK. Our campus is located in central London and is energised by being in the centre of the city's academic district. We are surrounded by green spaces, universities, libraries and museums.

Good graduate earnings

Birkbeck is third among all non-Russell Group universities (a group of 24 leading universities in the UK) for the likelihood of its graduates earning over £30,000 a year, according to data analysis from 2022. 

Highly ranked for international outlook

In the 2018 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, Birkbeck was in the top third of more than a thousand leading universities. We are also ranked highly for our international outlook, figuring in the top 10% of listed universities, based on overseas staff, students and research collaborations.
