Research overview
My research and teaching interests are principally concerned with contemporary television, gender politics and feminism, cultural memory and representations of the historical imagination in the media. I have mainly focused on contemporary US television and feminist film and television theory, as well as film comedy and early cinema (US and German). More recently I have developed interests in Scandinavian TV drama, cultures of public service broadcasting and the transnational movement of television fiction, as well as cultural memory and the representation of history and politics in television drama.
I am the managing editor of the TV journal, Critical Studies in Television: The International Journal of TV Studies.
I would welcome applications from research students with topics on any of the above areas, as well as particular projects concerned with gender and feminism, television history and methodologies, and trading TV fictions.
