Birkbeck's 2012 undergraduate fees and student financial support package
Birkbeck's 2012 undergraduate fees and student financial support package
Birkbeck offers prestigious University of London degrees and charges lower fees than other 1994 Group and Russell Group universities
Birkbeck has developed a distinctive fee and student financial support offering for 2012 that reflects its unique position as a global top 200, research intensive university and London's specialist evening university educating a student body as diverse as the capital city population. Birkbeck offers prestigious University of London degrees and will charge lower undergraduate fees than other colleges of the University of London, as well as other 1994 Group and Russell Group universities. At a time of major change, Birkbeck's plans for 2012 breathe new life into its traditional mission and enable the College to continue to balance the highest quality university education with a powerful ongoing commitment to accessibility and social mobility.
The College will have three types of fee for its undergraduate programmes from 2012 and a very generous student financial support package to ensure that money is not a barrier to study for the 20,000 non-traditional students who choose to study at Birkbeck each year.
Birkbeck's entry level programme fee: £3,800 - £6,000 (pro-rata)
Birkbeck's lowest fees will be targeted at entry level programmes to ensure that the College continues to encourage non-traditional students to take their first steps into higher education. Birkbeck will continue to welcome students without traditional qualifications and offer a wide range of pathways onto degrees that allow students to start at an appropriate level for them. For many of these important pathway programmes, Birkbeck will set its fees at or well below a pro-rata of £6,000.
Birkbeck's standard fee: £8,000 (pro-rata)
This will be the standard fee for Birkbeck's high quality University of London degrees including classroom and lab-based degrees.
Our undergraduate degrees normally take four years to complete part-time in the evening and study is at an intensity of 75%. The standard annual fee will be £6,000.
We also now offer some three year, full-time, evening study degree programmes where the standard annual fee will be £8,000 and some six year, part-time, evening study degree programmes where the standard annual fee will be £4,000.
Birkbeck's higher fee: £9,000 (pro-rata)
This fee will normally be charged for programmes with strong professional outcomes, for example where there is professional accreditation or direct access onto professional training.
Our undergraduate degrees normally take four years to complete part-time in the evening and study is at an intensity of 75%. The higher annual fee will be £6,750.
We also now offer some three year, full-time, evening study degree programmes where the higher annual fee will be £9,000 and some six year, part-time, evening study degree programmes where the higher annual fee will be £4,500.
Student Financial Support
Birkbeck is committed to making the highest quality university education available to our students. The College has developed a generous financial package for students in need that will offer financial support to a third of new undergraduate entrants in 2012.
It will complement the new government loan scheme and will include:
- money off fees
- non-repayable cash bursaries to support the costs of learning (e.g. books, childcare, travel)
- non-repayable cash support from hardship funds
Part-time students will not be eligible for maintenance support from Government and Birkbeck has developed plans that will ensure support for part-time and full-time students studying at the College.
