Birkbeck in the top 100
2015 QS World University Rankings by Subject published
Birkbeck has made a strong showing in the latest QS worldwide ranking of universities by subject areas.
The College is ranked among the top 100 universities worldwide in four subject categories - English Literature, History, Philosophy and Psychology - according to the 2015 QS World University Rankings by Subject, published this week.
Birkbeck is also ranked in the top 150 universities worldwide for Law, and in the top 200 for Linguistics, Geography and Sociology.
Published annually since 2011, the QS World University Rankings highlight the world’s top universities in 36 subject areas. The rankings are based on research citations from Scopus data, which includes analysis from 17.3 million research papers and more than 100 million citations – as well as reputational surveys of more than 126,000 academics and graduate employers worldwide.
The QS rankings follow on from Birkbeck’s success in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, which placed Birkbeck 30th in the UK for research, with 73% of its research rated ‘world leading’ or internationally excellent’. Half of Birkbeck’s submissions were placed in the top 20 nationally, with Psychological Sciences 5th in the UK, Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences 6th and Biological Sciences 11th.
