Birkbeck Pro-Vice-Master and Director of External Relations appointed to prestigious international role at CASE
After eleven years as the Director of External Relations and pro-vice-master Strategic Engagement and Recruitment at Birkbeck, Tricia King has been appointed to the prestigious position of vice president of international operations for the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and will leave Birkbeck at the end of October.
During her time at Birkbeck, Tricia has played an integral role in raising the profile of the College and the transformative power of education for non-traditional learners.
Tricia has worked tirelessly with optimism and enthusiasm through good times and challenging times to secure the college's future and ensure Birkbeck survives and thrives as it heads towards its third century.
Her passion, hard work and advocacy have helped safeguard Birkbeck’s unique mission providing evening teaching for ambitious students of all ages, professions, backgrounds and cultures at a research-intensive university.
In her new role, which commences in early November, Tricia will be instrumental in the global development of CASE. She is a long-time volunteer, serving as a trustee on the CASE Europe Board of Directors for eight years and as a member of the CASE Communications and Marketing Commission for three years.
Commenting on her time at Birkbeck, Master of Birkbeck Professor David Latchman said:
“Tricia has been Birkbeck’s best storyteller – weaving a powerful narrative for students, staff, alumni, governments, donors and the media about why our unique institution matters. Her passion and commitment will be sorely missed.”
Tricia King said: “Working at Birkbeck for the past 11 years alongside talented and committed academic and professional colleagues has been a privilege. ‘Life transformation through education’ is a common thread between CASE and Birkbeck, and this new role will build on my professional passion for the power of education as a force for positive change for individuals and society.”
Jonah Duffin, current deputy director of External Relations, and Chris Murphy, head of development and alumni, will step into directorship roles upon Tricia’s departure.
Tricia added: “I am delighted Birkbeck has chosen to appoint Jonah and Chris. Both are exceptional colleagues, who have already made significant and long-lasting contributions to the College. They are the ideal candidates to build on the External Relations team’s successes and to lead it towards the 200th anniversary in 2023 and beyond.”
