THE COLLEGE PRESIDENT

After many years as the College President, Baroness Joan Bakewell DBE retired in September 2023. A new President will be appointed by the Governors during the autumn term to carry out this important, honorary ambassadorial and ceremonial role at Birkbeck.

VICE-PRESIDENT

The Vice-President is the Rt Hon the Lord Mayor of the City of London.

VICE-CHANCELLOR

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sally Wheeler, is the chief academic and administrative officer of the College. She has responsibility to the Governors for its finances, for promoting and maintaining the efficiency, good order and development of the College.

Supporting roles: In her responsibility for the day-to-day management of Birkbeck and in her role as the representative of Birkbeck on a wide range of organisations, the Vice-Chancellor is assisted by the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, the Pro Vice-Chancellors and the College Secretary.

The College Secretary and Clerk to the Governors, Katharine Bock, works closely with the Chair of Governors and the Governing Body to ensure effective governance and oversight of the College.
