Module description
As the culmination of this MA, the Final Project tests your ability to conceive, plan, research and write up an independent project. This major piece of research reflects the skills, theories, histories, methodologies and breadth of ideas introduced during your studies. It constitutes a piece of original work, which involves designing and conducting primary or advanced secondary research, and drawing appropriate conclusions from this work. There is no limit on subject matter, although it must fall within the broad subject field of film curating.
Indicative module content
- You are asked to write 10,000-12,000 word thesis, exploring in depth a historical or theoretical problem in the field of curation and/or the mediation or exhibition of screen media. Realising these ideas, you will be asked to curate a short programme of the moving image for the Birkbeck Cinema.
- Workshops will be held to cover aspects of the researching and writing of a dissertation. You will also be expected to make a short 5-minute presentation on your chosen research area in the summer term, followed by feedback and discussion from staff and fellow students.
