Module description
The hospitality industry is cyclical in nature and faces high elasticity of demand depending upon events in the macroeconomic environment. The financial crisis in 2008 and the pandemic of 2020 have taught hospitality businesses some hard lessons about disruption and perseverance. Disruption appears to have become the new normal for the future and managers need to master the art of building resilient organisations. This module will offer future managers a systematic approach to developing resilient cultures in their organisations through planning for short- and long-term eventualities, building a flexible/adaptable workforce, removing silos and increasing collaboration for speedy decision-making and increased innovation, improving communication, transparency and trust with key stakeholders and balancing all stakeholders’ needs.
Learning objectives
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- critically reflect on the short- and long-term business disruption eventualities, developing effective responses for your organisation together with a rationale for your proposals to integrate resilience into organisational operations
- critically evaluate a crisis situation and its impact on the organisation, and make recommendations of alternative ways to build resilience to the disruption highlighted
- select different aspects of the organisation, diagnose change requirements and interventions to develop an effective resilience strategy.
