BSc Data Science Project

Overview

Module description

The project provides you with an opportunity to investigate a relevant area of data science in depth and to develop a substantial piece of software in order to address one or more problems in the area. It draws on the material taught on the BSc Data Science and Computing and allows you to investigate problems of interest to you, under the supervision and guidance of a member of staff.

  • How to write a project proposal
  • How to organise and plan the project
  • How to undertake a literature review
  • How to write a project report

Learning objectives

By the end of this module, you will:

  • have knowledge of programming and software engineering
  • have knowledge of data science tools, techniques and applications
  • have an appreciation of research topics related to data science
  • be able to develop designs for information systems
  • be able to analyse data using appropriate methods
  • be able to plan and carry out a project with a focus on data science spanning several months
  • be able to perform abstract thinking and to exhibit abstraction skills
  • be able to write programs in appropriate programming languages
  • be able to create and document a design using an appropriate modelling language
  • be able to use a coherent information system development process
  • be able to use tools to analyse data.
