Module description
On this module you will gain the IT skills required throughout your programme of study, including:
- word-processing
- spreadsheets
- locating and accessing data online
- use of the College’s virtual learning environment and other College websites
- managing file storage and backups.
Learning objectives
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- prepare documents using a word-processing package, including formatting, pagination, referencing and inserting charts/tables/images
- create spreadsheets to present and analyse data, including use of formatting, formulas and graphs/charts, and importing economic data from online sources
- use the College’s virtual learning environment (Moodle) to access learning resources, engage in news forum discussions, use online assessment activities and submit assessments online
- use other College websites to access the library, learning development and My Birkbeck services
- manage backups and safe storage of your work, including accessing your Birkbeck ITS storage space and cloud storage options
- find and familiarise yourself with new sources of data and information and, where possible, adapt them to your own needs.
