- Assessment: a 2000-word individual market research report (30%) and a 3000-word individual business plan (70%)
Module description
This practically-led module is introduced as an alternative to the dissertation. It provides an opportunity for you to develop a viable business plan for:
- establishing a new business venture, or
- introducing innovation (e.g. a new product, service, process, business or project development) in an established organisation.
This involves gathering and analysing relevant information/data from potential customers, and researching competitors, suppliers and micro/macro environments as well as the strengths and weaknesses of your own resources/circumstances to start a business/introduce innovation. Hence, this module will be of value to future entrepreneurs whether in start-ups or corporate settings.
Throughout, you will be mentored by experienced business tutors.

Learning objectives
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- develop a viable business plan for establishing a new business venture or introducing innovation in an established organisation
- discover and/or create opportunities to generate value with and for potential customers
- conduct research necessary to gain in-depth knowledge required to develop a business plan
- devise a marketing plan to generate value to customers
- design a plan to operationalise a business model
- develop a financial plan for a business.
