Module description
In this module we examine education and learning as a contested field within global economies and specific national contexts. You will be encouraged to distinguish between different social and political perspectives on the role of education and the effects of particular national policies on teaching practices and learning in various educational contexts.
We will explore the idea of learning as a force for social reproduction but also social change and transformation, and provide you with a range of theories and interpretative skills that you can apply when analysing the effects of education in specific social and historical contexts. Recent debates on decolonising the academy provide an overarching framework for the module.
