Module description
Carried out during your final year, the project offers you the opportunity to consolidate and apply your learning across the entire BSc curriculum. You will undertake an in-depth investigation into a specific area of data science incorporating the use or implementation of software to address one or more key problems. In this module we emphasise the development of professional-quality software, critical evaluation of existing approaches and effective communication of complex ideas.
Working under the guidance of an experienced member of staff, the project enables you to explore systems and technologies of special personal or professional interest.

By the end of this module you will be able to:
- use knowledge of programming to solve a data science problem
- demonstrate the practical application of data science tools, techniques and applications
- appraise research topics related to data science
- design and develop software to carry out a data analysis
- analyse data using appropriate methods
- plan and carry out a project with a focus on data science spanning several months
- utilise abstract thinking and exhibit abstraction skills
- implement programs in appropriate programming languages
- create and document a design using an appropriate modelling approach.
