- Assessment: an unseen written examination (70%) and a 3000-word essay (30%)
Module description
In this module you will learn to read most prose and verse texts with confidence, gain a high level of grammatical comprehension and appreciate stylistic differences between texts.
Besides grammar work to consolidate your prior knowledge, the module will include:
- unseen translation
- prose composition
- elementary study of metre
- the study of extracts from a range of authors (e.g. Virgil, Livy, Tacitus, Cicero, Apuleius, Horace).
You are expected to do regular preparation of set texts, prose translations and other translation exercises.
