Happy Hour: Refugium: Time, Stone, Voice and Sound

When:
Venue: External

No booking required

Be transported to a rainforest, revisit musical treasures or experience rare recordings for the first time, all within our Entrance Hall. Guest selectors will open your ears and mind in these regular Friday evening sound experiences.

Refugium is a site-specific landscape composition created by Jon Hughes, Ben Elliott and Mark Edmonds, which uses sound to explore the history of Creswell Crags, a limestone gorge on the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border, where caves contain a remarkable record of human and animal activity around the last Ice Age.

Refugium represents the culmination of a collaborative research project between the departments of Music and Archaeology at the University of York. Funded by the Leverhulme Trust, and in partnership with the British Library and Creswell Heritage Trust.
