Talk: English Medium Instruction: Why, how and where? Lessons from Seven Countries Implementing EMI programmes at Tertiary Level.

 

Biography

Mark has spent the last 35 years working with International Students in secondary and tertiary contexts both at home and abroad. He has extensive teacher training experience, designing and delivering EMI and EAP training programmes for the University of Oxford and the British Council. Most recently he has travelled the world delivering the Academic Teaching Excellence programme for the British Council and is author of several teacher training programmes for the British Council.

Mark has also worked as an EMI/EAP consultant in Brazil and Morocco, where he is busy localising teacher training programmes for secondary and tertiary level staff. He recently completed a large scale research project for the University of Warwick into the experiences and difficulties faced by International Students studying in the UK. Mark was also responsible for the conceptual design and consultant editing of the academic writing component of a new five level EAP course-book for Oxford University Press called Milestones in English.

When he is not travelling or chained to his desk he opens the batting for his village cricket team and coaches the under 19 rugby squad in his nearest town.
