National Student Money Week

Managing your finances when being a student can be a tricky business and has proven at times to negatively affect mental health and general wellbeing. We are delighted to announce that our annual national student money week will begin from the 3rd February and this year we have a variety of events planned! The theme for this year is “Spend Healthy, Live Healthy – Sustainable Money” and Birkbeck's Student Advice team will be providing free student savvy money tips with a range of interactive activities, competitions and workshops!

If you're an enrolled undergraduate or postgraduate student, come and visit us in the Student Advice Centre between 4-7:30pm all week to discover our money saving possibilities, claim some freebies, and give yourself the chance of winning great prizes, from food baskets to Amazon vouchers!
Monday-Friday, 4-7:30pm (Finance Stalls - Advice Centre)
- Expert money saving tips, sponsored by Blackbullion
- Interactive activities – designed to help you improve your money skills. It will cover areas such as sustainable clothes shopping, cleaning with everyday materials and even home workout plans!
- Food recipe blog. Stay tuned to our Twitter and Instagram pages as we will be uploading daily recipes at discount prices.
Tuesday, 3:30-4:30pm Mental Health Workshop
Our wellbeing services team will be available to discuss any issues you are facing with managing mental health whilst studying as a student. Managing study alongside other commitments has been proven to be very challenging at times. If you have any questions or concerns whilst studying with us then we will be happy to have a chat with you a discuss a plan to support and assist you.
Food Recipe Competition:
Can you create a meal in under £2 and would you like to win a Free Fitness Tracker? Great! We’d love to see your different ideas. We will be hosting a competition to see who can present the most cost-efficient meal. You’ll need to take a picture of a meal inside of a food jar along with the recipe and prices and submit it to our student advice team. Our student services department will judge the most creative meal will and the winner will be awarded with a Free Fitness Tracker.
Rowing Machine Competition:
Here you’ll get a chance to enter a competition to win a £50 Amazon voucher. You’ll need to row for as long as you can and, depending on the calories you have burned, will need select what food you have burned from a selection provided. If you’re correct, you’ll be entered into a lucky dip!
Budgeting Workshop
This event is held the week after NSMW however why not book your space on the event early? This workshop is designed to prepare students to manage their finances and money whilst studying with us at Birkbeck and will cover creating a budget plan and other tips when managing finances as a student. Please refer to our events page to book your space online.
