Outliers
In statistics, an 'outlier' is a point that is distant from other observations. It seems an apt way of considering the vast landscape of neglected or totally unknown films that make up British cinema, dominated by the names and reputations of a very limited group of valued directors and studio 'brands'. However, video releases have started to open up some of the unknown regions, revealing unexpected treasures, as in this selection of recent discoveries.
Obsession (Edward Dmytryk, 1949) Robert Newton, Sally Gray
Dark psychological thriller by the controversial noir specialist Dmytryk, scripted by the future writer of Hitchcock's Vertigo.
