Computing as Critical Practice

Abstract:

At the intersection between computer science and artistic practice, things move in two directions: concepts from computing move into the world, and critical perspectives come into computing. In this seminar I will use examples of artistic practice to break this down into aspects of computing, criticality, and practice. This will combine theory, including concepts of modelling and procedural generation, with practical research methods including thinking through code, rapid prototyping, and an approach I developed called ‘de-computation’.
