This event will include elements of our research programmes in Analytical and Biological Chemistry, Microbiology, Structural Biology, Bioinformatics and perhaps Cell Biology (TBC).

Amongst high quality research in all these disciplines, the department is world-reputed in the use of Electron Microscopy techniques for the characterization and study of the molecular machinery of the living organisms.  

This event will include two short research lectures by Professor Helen Saibil and Dr William Lees, followed by a conversation between the Head of Department, Prof. Carolyn Moores) and her graduate student, Mr Tom Foran, on " Studying the microtubule cytoskeleton: A framework for cell motility and for a career in biomedical research”. There will also be a presentation by Birkbeck alumnus, Mr Darren Cooper, who will talk about life after Birkbeck and how he has been inspired to start up his own business. 

In addition, prospective students will be able to meet with staff in charge of our range of research programmes of study. In this occasion, current and prospective students will also be able to meet and talk with Principal Investigators that lead research projects and with current PhD students in our Department.
