This Carbon Literacy training course with the Carbon Literacy Trust provides an opportunity to learn more about the impacts of climate change and bring an awareness of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities. The training aims to motivate individuals and organisations to reduce emissions.

The training will be delivered online by Dr Alex Mifsud. The course and training materials have been developed by Nottingham Business School (Nottingham Trent University) 

The course is free of charge and open to Birkbeck MBA Students, PhD Students and Staff in the School of Business, Economics and Informatics. 

The Carbon Literacy Training consists of 4 sessions which will start on Monday 8 November 2021 and run over the course of 4 weeks.

  • Session 1: Monday 8 November  10:30-12:30
  • Session 2: Monday 15 November 10:30-12:30
  • Session 3: Monday 22 November 10:30- 12:30
  • Session 4: Monday 29 November 10:30-12:30

Attendees will receive a certificate on successful completion of the course. The full 8 hours of training needs to be completed in order to receive the Carbon Literacy Certificate. 

The Society for the Advancement of Management Studies 

The Carbon Literacy Training Workshop is a project led by Dr. Fred A. Yamoah of the Department of Management and Principles of Responsible Management Education (UN PRME) Lead at Birkbeck. This training workshop is sponsored with funding awarded to Dr. Fred A. Yamoah by The Society for the Advancement of Management Studies (SAMS) UK as part of his effort to integrate sustainability in management education.

Nottingham Trent University Carbon Literacy Training 

The ‘NTU Carbon Literacy Training For All Staff and Students’ was designed by NTU’s Green Academy adapting the ‘Carbon Literacy training for Business Schools’ to a wider audience. The ‘Carbon Literacy Training for Business Schools’ was developed by Nottingham Business School (Nottingham Trent University) in collaboration with the UN PRME Champions, Oikos International and The Carbon Literacy Project. It also includes an introduction to En-ROADS developed by Climate Interactive in collaboration with MIT Sloan and Ventana Systems.

Carbon Literacy Trainer 

Dr Alex Mifsud holds a Ph.D. in Education for Sustainable Development from London South Bank University (UK)  She lectures on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in Malta and the UK and sits on the Sustainability Research Group within the London Regional Centre of Expertise on ESD. Alex has developed ESD courses and training programmes and applies her research interests in employee engagement and behavioural change to assisting organisations work towards their sustainable development goals.

Dr. Mifsud has co-designed the Online Carbon Literacy Training and offers the Carbon Literacy Training in the UK and across the EU region.
