When:
Venue: Online

No booking required

The rise in social media platforms, such as Instagram and TikTok, has given many businesses a greater reach into international markets, but has required innovation and a push for a higher quantity and quality of video content in order to capture the attention of those potential customers and fans. Many major sporting competitions and teams have launched their own video on-demand (OTT) and streaming services to compete in this space, forcing clubs such as PSG, FC Barcelona or CR Flamengo to adopt English as a way into the global arena.

Jamie Coles will talk about his work with FC Barcelona and Barcelona-based motorcycle world champions MotoGP and how those companies are striving for a global reach and the opportunities this provides bilingual content creators and journalists.

About Jamie

Jamie Coles moved to Barcelona in the summer of 2015 barely able to order a beer in Spanish. Six years later he’s working at one of the biggest football clubs in the world, FC Barcelona, where he commentates football matches, produces videos and does the simultaneous translation for press conferences and interviews, broadcast around the world. He was the English voice of Leo Messi when he said goodbye to the club, a press conference that was watched live, in English, by tens of millions of Barça fans around the world.
Jamie has translated some of the biggest names in football, as well as working on various Barça-related TV shows on their On-Demand platform, Barça TV+. Jamie also produces and co-hosts a podcast about Sport Media, and regularly contributes to news and blogs about media, digital culture and sport, appearing in the likes of Reuters, LADBible and El Diario.
