A short film and presentation exploring the ways in which women’s work and voices have been silenced in both historic and contemporary contexts. Online.

Silencing, censorship, suppression. Inspired by the lives and work of Mary Wollenstonecraft and Marianne Faithfull, Mary/Marianne is a collage performance-installation about the ways in which women’s work and voices have been silenced.  We incorporate other historical and contemporary women across different disciplines, such as Syrian architect Marwa Al-Sabouni and Turkish playwright Meltem Arikan, and use excerpts from censored work as the foundation for our own investigation into what censorship means in terms of artistic expression.  This short film and presentation will give audiences a preview of this project.      
 
Sarah Sigal is Chicago-born, London-based writer, director, dramaturg and researcher, working across new writing, devising, immersive theatre, adaptation, opera and fiction.      
 
Katharina Reinthaller is an Austrian theatre director & dramaturg working mainly in new writing, with an interest in interdisciplinary work that explores theatricality and performance.
