School of Science Celebration to Support World Refugee Day

Please join us for some tea and cake in an event to mark the immense contributions refugees and forced migrants make to Birkbeck.

When: 3 – 5 pm

Where: MAL G16

World Refugee Week honours the strength and courage of refugees and is held to cultivate compassion for others. This year, at Birkbeck, we are inviting you to explore the theme of ‘Healing,’ to celebrate global community, mutual care, resilience, and the human ability to rise above.

The event will start with a couple of short presentations to highlight some of the work going on to support refugees and forced migrants, and then we will move on to a refreshment focused event where we can share some good food and stories.

Please come along to show your support for all of the refugees and forced migrants at Birkbeck.  Refreshments will be provided but attendees are also very much encouraged to bring their own snacks that remind them of home, and to share their personal stories of how they ended up in Bloomsbury.

The event is free of charge but please book a place here so we can arrange the catering.

If anyone did want to make a donation to support a charity for World Refugee, there is no shortage of need and there are no shortage of options to help.1 If you would like to support Birkbeck’s own Compass project please see the link below.2

Best wishes,
