The Gender and Medieval Studies conference is an annual event which visits different universities every year. This year it is co-hosted in central London by Birkbeck and Wellcome Collection. Speakers will address the theme Aftermath, Recovery and Repair.

We are sorry to have changed the dates of this conference. This was because of RMT strike action across the UK rail system, which would have made it difficult for delegates to attend. If you in the programme and are no longer able to come please let the organising team. Please also inform the organising team of any lost costs. We can no make no promises on these but we will see if we have funds to offer any compensation.

What's included in the ticket price? 

We have tried to keep costs for delegates down. We are grateful for funding from the Consortium of Humanities and Arts South-East England (CHASE) and in-kind support from the Wellcome Collection. 

The in-person ticket price includes cofee/tea, lunch every day, a drinks reception with light snacks (on Wednesday). 

 

If you are attending in person, please indicate if you have dietary requirements on the booking form. 

The online ticket price is a contribution towards costs (such as speakers, rooms with AV); in return for your fee, we will give you virtual links for both strands of the conference. 

The ticket price does not include accommodation, travel or dinner on Wednesday night. There is a travel fund for students and unwaged delegates (the Kate Westoby Fund) and you can apply for that by contacting Gareth Evans, the Gender and Medieval Studies Group treasurer (gareth.evans@st-hildas.ox.ac.uk).

The GMS 2023 conference is housed in three different locations in London's Bloomsbury.

Wednesday 11th January. The conference will be at the Birkbeck Central Building on Malet St London WC1E 7HY (opposite the large Waterstones). Closest tube stops: Euston Square and Euston.

Thursday 12th January. The conference will be hosted in the Welcome Collection 183 Euston Rd, London NW1 2BE. Closest tube stops: Euston square and Euston.

Friday 13th January. the conference will be held at Birkbeck’s new building, 373 Euston Rd, London NW1 3AR. Closest tube stops: Great Portland Street and Warren St.
