About this research study
In July 2020, in response to the disability employment gap and recommendations from the Inclusive Entrepreneur Network, the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Inclusive Entrepreneurship was formed. The group is chaired by Dr Lisa Cameron, MP and Jacqueline Winstanley, Founder & CEO of Universal Inclusion provides the Secretariat supported by Savvitas. The APPG goals are to stimulate, encourage and nurture inclusive entrepreneurship throughout the country, and to engage with
entrepreneurs who have protected characteristics, particularly disabled people. The group has a particular focus on how parliamentarians can support disabled people who want to innovate and pursue enterprising opportunities.

Within the two year programme of Work the APPG has launched an Inquiry and is undertaking research to inform the Inquiry and subsequent recommendations to parliament. This research will be undertaken in collaboration with Birkbeck Centre for Innovation Management Research (CIMR), Universal Inclusion, the Innovation Caucus and is funded by Innovate UK and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). This research is carried out by Professor Helen Lawton Smith and Ms Jacqueline Winstanley.
This project seeks to understand the issues relating to barriers to innovation and enterprise faced by disabled people. We aim to carry out focus groups with disabled people who are actual or potential innovative entrepreneurs. We need your help to identify support structures that have been successful in fostering new firms, their scope and visibility, and in pinpointing any gaps that need to be addressed in the future.
Taking part in the focus group
It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part in this research study by participating in a focus group. If you do decide to take part you please complete the attached consent form. If you decide to take part you are still free to withdraw at any time and without giving a reason.
The data collected for this study will be stored securely and only the researchers conducting this study will have access to this data. The computer itself password protected. The data generated in the course of the research will be kept securely in paper or electronic form for a period of time in accordance with the research funder or University policy. The questionnaire data are collected and analysed by Oxford Brookes University who are the data managers. The Road to Wonder project team are the data users.
The anonymous results of this study will be presented in a report. All data will be presented in aggregated form using graphs and statistics. Upon request, a summary of the findings will be sent to those who have been invited to take part in the survey once the project is completed.
