What role has Birkbeck played in expanding what university education can be? And what can Birkbeck offer for the present and the future, especially through the disciplines represented in our department (History, Classics and Archaeology)? Professor Pat Thane, Professor Joanna Bourke, Professor Sir Richard Evans and Professor Edith Hall will discuss these questions, with a special focus on the study of the past at Birkbeck. They will discuss the lessons of Professor Bourke's new history of Birkbeck on its 200th anniversary, drawing connections with current policy and politics. All are welcome to participate in this online event.
