This master class will provide postgraduate students at Birkbeck College at all stages an opportunity to make brief presentations on their research projects and get feedback on them from two historians who are based at other institutions and both work in different fields and belong to different academic generations. One respondent, who will also introduce and moderate the event, will be Jeffrey Wasserstrom (PhD., Berkeley, 1989). He is Chancellor’s Professor of History at UC Irvine, is currently a Leverhulme Visiting Professor at Birkbeck, and is a social and cultural historian whose work has focused on China and engaged with issues of gender, revolution, and global cities. The other respondent will be Aditya Ramesh (PhD., SOAS, 2018). He is a Presidential Fellow at the University of Manchester and is a specialist in environmental history and the history of South Asia.
