Independent history researcher Kwaku will make an audio-visual assisted presentation which will reveal new and little-known histories of what happened to the Windrushers who were housed in the Clapham South Deep Shelter in June 1948.
Although Brixton, in the south London borough of Lambeth, is steeped in Windrush history, and the focus of this presentation will be on what happened in Lambeth on June 23 1948, it will also provide a broad picture about how the Shelter was found, some of the Windrushers that lived there, where they were dispersed to, and much more!
Expect a fun, family-friendly presentation aimed at providing an accessible learning environment for those who are open-minded and interested in history, rather than stories!
The content, which is based on robust research and evidence, is bound to challenge some of the prevalent and deeply-held views of the Windrush narrative.
Please note that although it is a free event, pre-booking is required. Room details will be provided upon booking.
This BTWSC/African Histories Revisited presentation to mark Windrush @ 75 is hosted by Cllr Sonia Winifred and will be in the presence of local dignitaries.
