To celebrate the publication of The Films of Laura Mulvey and Peter Wollen: Scripts, Working Documents, Interpretation (edited by Oliver Fuke; BFI Publishing), BIMI presents a special screening of Wollen’s solo feature, Friendship’s Death (1987).

This science fiction film is built around extended conversations between a Glaswegian journalist (Bill Patterson), who is covering the Palestinian liberation struggle in Jordan in 1970, and a robot extra-terrestrial (Tilda Swinton) who has landed there in error. Edward W. Said praised the film: ‘Wollen’s achievement is particularly distinguished […] because he is, after all, an outsider. To have done the right thing and to have done it so authentically, this says a great deal about Wollen – and about Palestine.’

The screening event will be preceded by short introductions to the book by Laura Mulvey and Oliver Fuke.
