The call to decolonize universities goes hand in hand with making educational settings and curricula inclusive. This agenda, in particular, needs to address a lack of flexible opportunities and part-time education for adult learners.

Tom Sperlinger, the author of Who Are Universities for? and Romeo and Juliet in Palestine, is Professor of Literature and Engaged Pedagogy at the University of Bristol. He has dedicated his teaching, writing and research to adult education and to creating connection between universities and external communities.

In ‘“Leave your story at the door”: Tales from an unconventional reading group’, Prof Sperlinger will talk about different types of readers and the ethics of reading with/writing about others and educational settings beyond the academy.

The introduction will be given by Dr Soody Gholami, who is currently a Research Fellow at Birkbeck University. Dr Gholami’s research mainly focuses on inclusive and accessible education in post-Brexit Britain.

Following the talk, there is a Q&A.
