'The Forgotten Generation'(2013 - dir. Deepa Dhanraj) and panel discussion with Penny Vera-Sanso (Birkbeck), chaired by Chris Roles, Director, Age International.
The Forgotten Generation is based on research undertaken by Penny Vera-Sanso into old age poverty in urban Tamil Nadu, rural Rajasthan and adivasi (indigenous) communities in Maharashtra. The film reveals the realities of older people's lives, relationships and work as well as their expectations of the future, showing how older people manoeuvre within tight constraints to create new social and economic opportunities for themselves, their families and friends and how targeted social pensions are producing Kafka-esque encounters with the State.
