Academic skills workshop: Referencing using the author-date system for linguistics students (APA and Harvard)

When:
Venue: Online

Please note that this workshop is for linguistics students. However, if you are not a linguistics student but need to use either APA or Harvard referencing in your assessments, you may also find this workshop helpful.

The author-date referencing system is one of the most common ways to cite sources in academic writing. Harvard and APA are both specific styles which use the uthor-date system. They are therefore quite similar, although the exact format of references may vary somewhat.

Linguistics students at Birkbeck are asked to use the author-date system for referencing in their assessments, but ou can choose whether to use APA or Harvard. This workshop will introduce the author-date system more generally, and then review how to cite books, book chapters and journal articles using both APA and Harvard styes. We will finish by identifying key online resources to use for guidance on citing other less common types of sources in APA and Harvard.

If you are not a School of Creative Arts, Culture and Communication student but would like to attend this workshop, please contact the organiser directly.
