With social injustice so prominent and geopolitics inflecting to the right and far right, never has a vocabulary of resistance and freedom been so necessary. Lyndsey Stonebridge will be addressing issues from her new book on Hannah Arendt titled We Are Free to Change the World: Hannah Arendt’s Lessons in Love and Disobedience and joining the discussion will be Neda Mohamadi, Catherine Rottenberg and Angela McRobbie, followed by a Q&A and chaired by Mandy Merck.

  • Dr Neda Mohamadi -

    Dr Neda Mohamadi is an Iranian art curator, academic scholar and art advisor based in London, UK, and currently the art curator at Southampton Hospital/University and a member of (In)Justice International (Based in Leeds).  Neda's most recent project included curatorial methods in the sociopolitical subject of migration in contemporary arts, which was aimed at the hidden perspective of social matters.

    Angela McRobbie is Emeritus Prof at Goldsmiths. Her most recents books are Fashion as Creative Economy (with D Strutt and C Bandinelli, 2002) and Ulrike Ottinger: Film, Art and the Ethnographic Imagination (Intellect 2024) which she has edited.

  • Emer Prof Mandy Merck -

    Mandy Merck is Professor Emerita of Media Arts at Royal Holloway, University of London, and currently Honorary Research Fellow at Birkbeck. Her most recent book is Cinema’s Melodramatic Celebrity: Film, Fame and Personal Worth. Her next is Downsizing: Film and the Miniature.

  • Prof Catherine Rottenberg -

    Catherine Rottenberg is a professor in the Department of Media, Communications and Cultural Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London. Her most recent books include the co-authored The Care Manifesto (2020) and This Is Not A Feminism Textbook! (2023) which she edited.

    Lyndsey Stonebridge FBA is Professor of Humanities and Human Rights at the University of Birmingham, UK. Her previous books include Placeless People: Writing, Rights, and Refugees (2018) The Judicial Imagination: Writing After Nuremberg, and the essay collection, Writing and Righting: Literature in the Age of Human Rights.
