Come and join us for our BA Classics Programmes Offer Holder afternoon.
BA Classics programmes is a part of the School of Historical Studies.
You will have the opportunity to chat with our staff Catharine Edwards and find out more about the programmes.
Catharine Edwards research work focuses on the cultural history of the Roman world, particularly Rome in the late republic and early principate. The complex literary strategies of Roman texts are an intrinsic part of that world’s fabric.
Catharine Edwards is a Professor of Classics and Ancient History. Her research and teaching mainly focuses on the Roman world. She is currently writing a book about Cicero and the extraordinary times he lived through and she regularly teaches the Roman half of our first year module ‘Ancient World,’ as well as advanced Latin literature modules on Tacitus and Ovid.
Studying Classical Studies at Birkbeck allows you to combine an introduction to Greek or Latin language, with wide-ranging study of the literature, history, philosophy and material culture of the Greco-Roman world, while our Classics degree focuses particularly on in-depth study of ancient languages, in their cultural contexts. Our programmes at Birkbeck are taught within the School of Historical Studies and a particular strength is our exploration of connections and comparisons between the ancient world and more recent periods.
Birkbeck was ranked in the top eight universities in the UK for its History research in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.
Birkbeck teaching takes place in the evening, leaving you free to study, volunteer or explore London during the day.
This event will be online.
