In this online taster lecture, you will have the opportunity to meet with your lecturer: Dr. Keith Mannock, ask questions about our programmes and gain an overview of the courses we offer, including the following:
MSc Computer Science
Our MSc Computer Science provides you with a valuable grounding for working in the information technology industry. As well as gaining a broad knowledge of computing, you will acquire programming skills and have the opportunity to investigate specific areas of current research more deeply.
This intensive computer science course is designed for graduates who are new to computer science and would like to embark on a career in IT. It is also ideal if you are working in IT, without a formal IT degree, and want to update your skills and place them in a broader context while also obtaining a formal computer science qualification.
MSc Advanced Computing
If you already work in the IT sector, or you intend to pursue a career in IT or a research degree, our MSc is designed to advance your knowledge of advanced computing technologies.
This Master's degree in computing has significant coverage of emerging technologies and research developments and focuses on areas of expertise and research specialisation among our academic staff.
In addition to eight taught modules, there is a substantial practical project. As an alternative to the award of MSc Advanced Computing, you may choose modules and a project with a particular specialisation leading to the award of MSc Data Analytics.
Once you successfully complete this MSc you will have obtained knowledge and understanding of technologies of growing importance in the IT industry and their relationship to current and emerging IT industry practice.
MRes Advanced Computing: The MRes has been designed to meet the needs of both students wishing to advance their knowledge of computing or information systems before embarking on a research and development career in IT or on an MPhil/PhD degree, and students already working in the IT sector.
MSc Data Science
Our intensive MSc Data Science is designed for graduates who are new to computer science and wish to develop the knowledge and skills for a successful career in data science and AI, working as a data scientist or as a software developer of data-intensive systems. It is also ideal if you are working in IT or data science, without a relevant degree, and want to update your skills and place them in a broader context, while also obtaining a formal qualification in this area of emerging importance.
On this course you will gain a broad knowledge of the techniques and concepts of data science and acquire strong programming and data analysis skills using Python, R and Java - the most popular programming languages used by data scientists today.
Our MSc Data Science also allows you to develop foundational skills in software development and specialist skills such as natural language processing and deep neural networks.
