What is 'academic writing'? What does it sound like? How do i use it? How is it similar or different to other kinds of writing? Why can’t I say ‘I’ or state my opinions? How can I sound more appropriately academic?
This workshop will discuss the academic conventions of formality, objective tone, cautious 'hedging' language and alternatives to using ‘I’ in your assignments, including how to express your arguments objectively, cautiously and persuasively. It will also examine different types, or genres, of academic writing that are required in different disciplines.
This online workshop will take place on Microsoft Teams.
