Symposium on the publication of the proposed new human right to live without physical or psychological threat from above

The symposium will be followed by a reception from 4 to 5 pm.

Over the last six years, the Airspace Tribunal held a series of international hearings, to discuss challenges related to the problems of militarization, surveillance, and climate change in airspace and outer space. Discussions especially stressed the lack of legal protection regarding the threats coming from above and the ignorance related to the consequent psychological and physical harm that large populations are subjected to. These discussions have shaped the proposed new human right.

Discussants at the symposium:
Professor Bill Bowring, Birkbeck Law School, Birkbeck College, University of London
Iva Ramuš Cvetkovic, Institute of Criminology at Faculty of Law, Ljubljana, Slovenia
Professor Anthony Downey, Birmingham City University
Professor Oscar Guardiola-Rivera, Birkbeck Law School, Birkbeck College, University of London
Professor Shona Illingworth, School of Arts, University of Kent
Dr Gbenga Oduntan, Kent Law School, University of Kent
Professor Renata Salecl, Birkbeck Law School, Birkbeck College, University of London
Professor Luli Van der Does, Center for Peace, Hiroshima University

At this event, we will also present the double special issue dedicated to the Airspace Tribunal of the journal Digital War (https://airspacetribunal.org/). This publication will form a substantial part of the dossier concerning the proposed new human right that will be submitted to the UN, the Council of Europe and other bodies later this year.
