  • Are you confused by or new to academic referencing?
  • Have you been told that you need to work on your referencing skills?
  • Do you want to learn the basics of what referencing is, why we do it, and what it looks like?

If you've answered yes to any of these questions, then join us for this introductory session on the basics of referencing. We'll consider what referencing is and why it's important for academic writing. We'll consider when you need to reference, as well as when you don't need to reference. Finally, we'll look at some different examples of referencing to understand what referencing looks like in practice.

Please note that this session will not cover the detailed mechanics of referencing in a particular style. We will look at examples of both UWE Harvard referencing and OSCOLA referencing, the two main referencing styles used in Birkbeck Law School; however, the content of this session is not style-specific, so whether you need to use Harvard, OSCOLA, or any other referencing style, this workshop will be relevant for you.
