Birkbeck Law School academic skills workshop: Conducting online legal research
When:
—
Venue:
Online
This workshop is for Birkbeck law students or Birkbeck students enrolled on a law module. Book your place in My Birkbeck / Events and Workshops (not sure how to do that? Watch this short video guide!). If you use the link above to book, please use your Birkbeck student email address to sign up - thanks!
This session provides an overview of the main sources of online legal research including two online legal databases, Westlaw UK and Lexis+ UK; highlights online resources you may be less familiar with such as BAILII, Europa, and HEIN Online; signposts to key search engines such as Google Scholar; and provides tips for searching for online sources, including the importance of search terms and how to use BOOLEAN operators to refine your search results. Please note that we don’t provide a step-by-step explanation on how to navigate these resources, but we do provide information and guidance on where to find out more. By the end of the workshop, you should leave with a clearer idea of where to start when conducting online legal research and a greater appreciation of the importance of ensuring your sources are credible and reliable.
