- Do you get feedback on assignments that your introduction is weak or unclear?
- Do you start all your essays with ‘In this essay, I will …’ or ‘This essay will …’?
- Are you unsure about what you are supposed to write in the introduction of assignments?
If your answer to any of these questions is yes, then you may benefit from attending this workshop.
The introduction of an essay or assignment is very important because it sets the reader up for the main body of the essay. In this workshop, we consider the typical structure and content of effective introductions and analyse examples of introductions to identify their structure and the language used to achieve this. After this, we’ll consider some of the academic phrases you can use to help you write your own introductions effectively.
