—
Venue:
Birkbeck Main Building, Malet Street

These events provide an opportunity to meet judges, solicitors and barristers and get first-hand insight into how the law works in practice. At each event, the invited speakers discuss their path int or the law and day to day life and offer advice to students looking to pursue a career in law.
Pauline Troy is a barrister at 1 Crown Office Row. She qualified initially as a solicitor, was awarded Higher Rights of Audience by the Law Society and subsequently transferred to the bar. Pauline is therefore a dual qualified practitioner and well placed to discuss the differences between solicitors and barristers. Pauline’s experience covers the full range of child protection cases including the most serious matters involving homicide within the family, sexual abuse, non-accidental injury, neglect, domestic violence, substance misuse and mental health difficulties. She has developed a particular expertise in the law relating to children, especially children and their families in the context of public law care and adoption proceedings.
Part of the conversation will focus on one of her recent reported decisions: West Sussex County Council v K [2022] EWFC 170 (06 December 2022).
This event is essential for anyone thinking of entering the legal profession.
