Birkbeck Climate Festival 2025: Climate Emotions: Navigating Anxiety, Grief, and Solastalgia
When:
—
Venue:
TBC
Join us for an informal, interactive session exploring the emotional dimensions of climate change—anxiety, grief, and solastalgia. This is a space to bring and reflect on the feelings you’ve been carrying about the climate crisis, whether it’s a sense of hopelessness, concern for the future, or grief over environmental loss.
We invite you to bring a worry or concern into the session to discuss with the group. Through guided discussion, we’ll examine where these emotions come from, how they shape our responses to the climate crisis, and how they can be channelled into meaningful action. We’ll explore the psychological impact of environmental change and consider how understanding these emotions is essential for building resilience and fostering sustainable futures.
This session also provides an early introduction to the BA Environment, Culture, and Communication Programme, offering insights into the upcoming module on climate emotions and the broader challenges of environmental grief and sustainability. Whether you're considering the programme or simply interested in the topic, this is an opportunity to engage with critical issues shaping our world.
Session led by Dr. Steve Willey, Academic Co-Director of Environmental Education Projects, in collaboration with the Birkbeck Centre for Counselling.
