Mathematical Sciences Seminar - Let's talk about Euclid in the UK at last

When:
Venue: Birkbeck Main Building, Malet Street

No booking required

If one wishes to study Euclid’s Elements today, one must resort to its critical edition, published by Heiberg in 1883 and revised by Stamatis in 1969. Fortunately for those who cannot read ancient Greek, the Elements has relatively recently been newly translated into several European languages; nevertheless, the English-speaking reader is somehow less fortunate, as the closest to Heiberg that exists is an outdated translation/commentary prepared in 1908 by Sir Thomas Heath. The topic of my presentation today, is to discuss the particularities of my current research project, the aim of which is to compose a new English edition of Euclid’s Elements.
