Quantum mechanics started life in two very different forms, (1) Schrödinger's wave mechanics and (2) Heisenberg's matrix mechanics. The latter is essentially algebraic, but dismissed as 'equivalent' to (1) (which is not true in general) and/or 'irrelevant'. I want to explore some simple, basic mathematical structures that allow a complete algebraic approach to both classical and quantum phenomena, both sharing a common mathematical background.
