How do we look to the stories of the past to justify our actions in the present? Join us on a journey through time and myth, from stone age drawings to sock puppets, as we ask why we tell the stories we tell and how they morph and evolve over generations.
This is a new work devised and performed by the MFA Directing course, inspired by academic research on non-elite 17th century writings by the Written Worlds project: : https://writtenworlds.org/
Dog-Eared is the result of conversation and collaboration between three researchers from the School of Creative Arts, Culture and Communication and students on the MFA in Theatre Directing. A few months ago, academics Grace Murray, Michael Powell-Davies and Alicia Smith visited the MFA class to introduce their research and share brief biographies of three little-known individuals whose stories they’ve encountered in their work. Join us in Arts Week to see the results, and how drama can respond to and reshape historical research.
The performance will last approximately 30 minutes and be followed by a Q&A with the performers and researchers on the Written Worlds project.
Please be aware: Dog-eared does contain strong language and descriptions of violence and death.
