The idea that there is a distinct type of dangerous dog has taken firm hold in the British popular imagination, despite much evidence suggesting that Breed Specific Legislation does not reduce dog attacks. Where does this idea come from? And what really motivates the debates that surround it?
Heike Bauer, Professor of Modern Literature and Cultural History and Head of the Department of English & Humanities, will discuss the emergence of the concept of the dangerous dog in nineteenth-century England and Wales in her inaugural lecture on 30th May starting at 5pm in Room B01, Clore Management Centre.
The lecture will be followed by a drinks reception.
While this a free event, you will need to book which you can do here.
