BIMI is kick-starting 2018 with the delightful King Vidor comedy Show People (1928). After launching the Cinephiles strand with Anthony Asquith's Shooting Stars, we are showing another late silent gem, continuing our theme of films whose stories take place in the world of cinema. Show People features Marion Davies (also the film's producer) as Peggy Pepper, an aspiring young actress fascinated by the allure of Hollywood. After meeting Billy Boone, the slapstick comedy actor played by William Haines, Marion begins her journey through the strange world of the dream factory... Look forward to cameo appearances by Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, William S. Hart and King Vidor himself!
The film is presented in a restored 35mm print from Photoplay Productions with live piano accompaniment by Cyrus Gabrysch.
Following the screening there will be a wine reception in the Cinema foyer.
