Presentation: the other P in your PhD
When:

Venue:
Birkbeck Clore Management Centre
No booking required
A postgraduate research day open to all GEDS students and staff which will explore how to communicate research effectively to different audiences. This is an opportunity for graduates to present their research to a friendly and supportive audience, gaining useful practice and constructive feedback. Each presentation will be structured around four key themes: establishing your credentials, identifying the research question, identifying the contribution the research will make and clearly communicating the key themes of the research.
For research students who have not yet upgraded, presenting at this research day will fulfill that particular requirement for your upgrade. If you've already upgraded, but would like a bit of practice in presenting your research to the GEDS community, please think about presenting here. And if you don't want to present, come along and support the students who are presenting. There will be refreshments and lunch, plus an outside speaker who will talk about presenting your work in the 'real' world.
If you are interested in presenting at the research day, please send your abstract, following this template to Gabriela (alvarezminte@gmail.com) by 25 April.
This event is free, and open to the GEDS community. As space is limited you need to book your place here, by 29 April: https://eventbrite.co.uk/event/16576563949/

Giles will start the event talking about presenting science in the 'real' world. He is a BBC documentary producer and director. He has been with the BBC for 15 years, mainly in the Science department, working on a range of output, from Horizon and Stargazing Live, to 'Pain Pus and Poison - A History of Modern Medicine' and 'Me, My Sex & I' (a film about the grey area between being male or female). His work also includes working at Live Events and he has covered the Diamond Jubilee, the Dambusters' 70th anniversary, the New Year's Eve Fireworks Concert by Queen, and this year's Holocaust Memorial Day.
This event is free, and open to the GEDS community. Particularly, all GEDS students are welcome!
